Safeguarding

When organising any activity which involves people working together whether that is within your team or with members of the public you need to think about who, if anyone, needs to be DBS checked and what the safeguarding issues might be around your proposed activity.

Disclosure and barring service checks (DBS)

• Not all learning activities will require your staff or volunteers to be DBS checked. For England, Wales and Northern Ireland can find out more about the DBS scheme on the goverment website.
• For details about the DBS scheme The Group for Education in Museums (GEM) provides clear advice on whether you need you team to be checked or not.

Safeguarding & working with vulnerable people

• For information about safeguarding in relation to learning activities the Kids in Museums Safeguarding Overview is a good place to start.
• If you are a charity, the Charities Commission has guidance on the Safeguarding duties for charity trustees.

Online safeguarding of vulnerable people 

• The Culture & Wellbeing Alliance have produced Guidance for working online, and online safeguarding if you’re working with vulnerable people.
