Self-led activities for families
From Our Toolkit
Self-led family activities provide a fun way for families to engage with your exhibitions together as a group. They provide a model of working with family audiences particularly if you are not confident to run formal sessions.
Trails and backpacks can draw on the stories from your collections either using your displays or the buildings that relate to your sports or sports people or local landmarks and the wider townscape.
Trails
- One of the Science and Industry Museum’s Creative Content Developers talks about creating a family fun trail
- Altogether Creative looks at creating engaging learning materials for families.
- Kids in Museums has a number of case studies highlighting family activities in museums.
Backpacks
- The V&A’s Designing Activity Backpacks for Families is a useful guide to producing activity backpacks for families.
