Caring for film and audio collections
From Our Toolkit
Media collections require a different type of collection care. In addition to the physical care of sound and film collections, collection holders also need to consider how to ensure that these collections can continue to be accessed as formats become obselete.
- The Army Museum Ogilby Trust’s Army Archives Manual includes a section on Caring for film and sound recordings.
- The British Library provides information on How to care for sound recording collections.
- The Library of Congress provides more detailed information on Care, Handling, and Storage of Audio Visual Materials.
- The Scottish Council on Archives and the National Library of Scotland recorded their recent webinar: First Steps: Caring for sound and moving image collections.
The resources listed above do include information on digitisation but you may wish to read further in the Digitising your collection topic of this toolkit.
