Skills audit
From Our Toolkit
An effective governing body is made up of members with a range of professional skills and experiences. It is up to the group itself to decide on the right mix of people for your organisation. When deciding on the balance of skills and perspectives you will need to take into account the purpose of the group and your future plans.
To review the skills you have in your group, to inform training and recruiting for the future it is helpful to undertake a skills audit. This is a useful exercise if you have been established a while or if you are looking to assess the feasibility of embarking on a new project or direction.
As part of their Trustee Recruitment Cycle resource, Reach Volunteering provide good advice on how to conduct a skills audit including templates.
An alternative skills audit template is also available from Shared Enterprise: Board skills audit template.
