University of Stirling

Following a major refurbishment of the university library in 2010 the university’s historical collections are, for the first time, fully accessible to researchers, staff and students. Our new archives and special collections area includes a reading room for the consultation of archives and rare books; exhibition space where material from our collections is displayed; and an environmentally controlled store which contributes towards the continued preservation of the collections.

Our collection

The Commonwealth Games Scotland Archive documents over 80 years of international sporting competition beginning with the formation of the first Scottish team for the British Empire Games in 1930. It includes a comprehensive collection of records relating to the planning, organization and administration of the 1970 and 1986 Commonwealth Games, which were both held in Edinburgh. Access to the collection can be arranged through contacting the archives directly.

Exhibitions

During the 2014 Commonwealth Games, hosted in Scotland, the archives mounted an exhibition specifically charting the Scotland’s participation in the Games – Hosts and Champions. Visit our website to find out more information about the exhibition.
