Scottish Borders Archives & Local History Service
We are the local authority and collecting archive for the Scottish Borders. Sporting collection strength lie in rugby union: programmes, photographs, administrative records, include Gala RFC, Hawick RFC, Jed-Forest RFC and Selkirk RFC, and junior clubs Hawick Linden and Hawick YM, and Big Sheets (750 approx) used by Bill McLaren, commentator (date span 1885-c.2006).
We also have cricket scorebooks, photographs, include St Boswells, Coldstream, Hawick, Innerleithen, Jedburgh, Kelso and Selkirk Cricket Clubs (date span 1893-c.1985), and some curling and Horse-racing records (19th-20th Centuries). There are also sporting archives in our Internment Research Centre resources of the early 20th century.
You can find out more via our online catalogue, Borders Collections Online. Please visit our website for a link to the catalogue and more information about opening times and making a booking to visit us. The best way to get in touch is by e-mailing [email protected].
We are also the only Scotland’s People centre in the south of Scotland. For £15 a day, you can access births, marriages, and deaths, and so much more, for the whole of Scotland. So if you’re interested in researching your own family history or that of your Scottish sporting heroes, why not book a seat or a one to one appointment with our Genealogical Registrar (fee payable).
