Westminster Menswear Archive
The Westminster Menswear Archive is currently the only collection in the United Kingdom dedicated exclusively to men’s clothing, fashion and design. Founded in 2016, the Westminster Menswear Archive is a leading collection of over 3,000 garments and accessories, dedicated to advancing the study of menswear design. With a focus on technical and functional aspects, the archive informs contemporary menswear design and serves as a vital resource for students, researchers, and designers. It comprises pieces from the 1780s to the present day from workwear and military uniform to current men’s fashion.
Sportswear is a key strength of the collection and includes garments designed for activities such as cycling, football, skiing, hiking, hunting and motorcycling. Following an exhibition celebrating British brand Umbro’s centenary in 2024 the collection has a significant group of Umbro garments, both designer collabs and technical sportswear. Sportswear casual garments in the collection reflects the influence of sports on men’s clothing.
