National Union of Track Statisticians

The National Union of Track Statisticians (NUTS) is an unincorporated association which was founded in 1958 to document the sport of athletics in Britain, initially in a statistical manner. We now increasingly deal with the history of the sport. The collection consists largely of publications, programmes, documents, papers and photographs, but we have a few other items such as medals, trophies and clothing.

The NUTS has been bequeathed or gifted collections of notable writers and statisticians, such as Norris McWhirter and Bob Sparks (former President of the worldwide Association of Track and Field Statisticians) and has received archives from the Counties Athletic Union and London AC.

The collection currently fills a large classroom at Coombe Wood School in Croydon (the “Library”), plus a small building at the nearby bowls club (unheated – mainly papers, duplicates and overseas material – the “Archive”). The Library may be visited and browsed by appointment, outside of schooldays.
