In this episode for the Sporting Heritage of Disability and Women’s sports project, funded by Sport England, Russell talks to Boccia players Scott McCowan – recently appointed as a Sporting Heritage Ambassador – Stephen McGuire and Claire Taggart as they prepare for the World Boccia 2021 European Championship in Seville, the first international Boccia competition since the Tokyo Paralympic Games

The athletes discuss how they found their way into Boccia and how the pandemic impacted on them given they had to shield. Having once had to fundraise to attend competitions abroad, they are now in receipt of Lottery funding and the Seville tournament will be the first ever to hold separate competitions for male and female competitors, having previously been a sport of mixed teams and competition.

Head of Development at Boccia England, Kate Moss, also discusses how you can get involved in Boccia – the world’s fastest growing disability sport – as a volunteer, athlete or fundraiser.
