Podcast - Challenging stereotypes about British South Asians in football

The role of sporting heritage in challenging stereotypes about British South Asians in football

In this episode as part of the Ignored Heritage project, project lead Kristopher Mckie is joined by: Humayun Islam, CEO of the BEAP Community Partnership and founder of Bangla Bantams, and Dr Dan Kilvington, Senior Lecturer in Media, Communication and Culture at Leeds Beckett University.

Humayun explains how in 2015 he set up Bangla Bantams as a way of broadening the appeal and welcome to the South Asian population in Bradford of football. While Dan explains how heritage can be an effective tool for challenging the assumptions and stereotypes of British South Asian participation and interest in football, which unfortunately still persist.
