Anita White Foundation (AWF) International Women and Sport Movement Archive
Launched in 2011 and based at the University of Chichester, the Anita White Foundation (AWF) aims to be a central point of reference for scholars and activists involved with women and sport, and to support the education and development of women leaders from countries where women face particular challenges.
The AWF consists of two main components: an Archive of original materials related to the women and sport movement and a Fund which will enable women leaders from countries where women face particular challenges to access education and development opportunities.
The Anita White Foundation International Women and Sport Movement Archive comprises papers accumulated by leaders in the “women’s sports movement” – a collective of organisations and individuals who have worked to achieve their overriding objective of sustained activism to change sport for women. These papers were amassed in the course of their research, study and work in the fields of the sociology of sport and sport science, and their involvement as activists and leaders in the global women and sport movement. The scope and content of the Archive includes substantial historical correspondence, meetings minutes, publications and other materials from organisations such as the International Working Group on Women and Sport (IWG), WomenSport International (WSI), and Women In Sport (the UK national women and sport organisation) among many others.
In total, over one hundred EcopHant archival quality storage boxes are housed in the Archive which is located in the Special Collections Room at the University of Chichester.
