Brymbo Heritage

One of our volunteers, Andrew Edwards, is putting together an illustrated book about Brymbo’s cricket and football history. It will be 48 pages long and will be priced at £6.99.

A note from the author

From the renaming of Brymbo’s Institute and Reading Room to become a Workman’s Institute in 1887, the village of Brymbo’s football and cricket clubs have shown a pride in their performance whilst competing at a national Welsh level. The highlights being the football club winning the 1967 Welsh Amateur Cup and the 2007 FAW Trophy while also famously playing Chester and Wrexham in Welsh Cup quarter-finals in 1968 and 1987. Meanwhile, the Cricket club won four national level trophies between 1987 and 2002 as well as being the dominant force in North Wales Cricket in the 1980’s and 1990’s. 

This book is a must for anyone who is proud of their village’s heritage and successes over a period of almost 130 years. It is being released to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the closing of the Brymbo Steelworks plant on September 27th 2015, which played a big part in the history of the village’s sports clubs, including the football and cricket, up until its closure.
