Help the World Cycling Revival celebrate 200 years of cycling history this June

Cycling Revival

14th, 15th and 16th June 2018

This June, the World Cycling Revival Festival will be held at the historic Herne Hill Velodrome. For the first time, 200 years of cycling history will be celebrated with competitive racing from superstar riders, live music from energising big bands and jazz ensembles, vintage fashion, fine dining and much much more. This three-day festival will be akin to the likes of Goodwood, Henley and Wimbledon and be the first of its kind for the sport of cycling.

As part of this celebration we are going to create a one of exhibition of cycling history, in partnership with the National Cycle Museum, and tell the fascinating history of the bicycle. We don’t just want to talk about bicycles however; the ‘social history of cycling’, the way the invention has transformed individuals’ and communities’ lives, is to be an integral part of our project.

To help us create a stunning and engaging exhibition we are keen to gather items and/or writing related to:

–          The use of the bicycle in war, abroad and at home
–          The use of the bicycle by the suffragette and women’s movements
–          The impact of cycling on the romantic lives of people in the late 19^th/early 20^th century
–          Early cycling competitions and the lives of those engaged in them
–          The use of bicycles in public service: doctors and nurses, postal workers and messengers

If you possess any materials that might make interesting viewing or reading for our patrons this June, please do not hesitate to get in touch and we can discuss showing them to our 20,000+ visitors.
