Edgbaston Archery & Lawn Tennis Society

This is the oldest lawn tennis club in the world, located next to Birmingham Botanical Gardens at the heart of the Calthorpe Estate, playing still on six grass courts occupying the original positions in which they were laid down in 1875.

The Society has a comprehensive archive with minute books dating back to its inception as the Edgbaston Archery Society. Victorian Lawn Tennis pioneer Harry Gem were members of the Society before their removal to live in Royal Leamington Spa in late 1872.
