Significance Project

We’re delighted to announce that our next phase of the Welsh significance project is now underway thanks to the generous support of the Welsh Government! This phase of the project will see more museums supported to go through our significance audit, the development of a peer support network, and a whole range of training and support events to help anyone develop their own significance project and understanding.
Peer Review Network:
Part of the project involves the creation of a peer network. Because sport is such a huge subject area, and because collections differ locally, regionally and nationally, we need individuals who between them have a wealth of knowledge and are happy to support organisations assess significance. So you may have in-depth knowledge of a sports cub, be part of a governing body of sport, have a wealth of knowledge as a spectator / enthusiast, or be a museum or archive professional. Ultimately, we’re aiming to develop a widespread network of people who can provide specialist insight into collections, pin point gaps, and increase the longer term awareness, collection, and diversity of sporting heritage going forward.
At this stage, we’re just looking to begin to build the network. Time commitments include attending or viewing a one-hour webinar which outlines the role of a peer reviewer and attending the inaugural online network meeting.
Part of the work at this stage, and the first meeting, will be to define peer reviewer engagement criteria. For example, how we share information so that organisations can find relevant peer reviewers, what time commitment a peer reviewer is expected to provide, and any recompense for being a peer reviewer (and if this depends on size and type of organisation).
