International Six Metre Association

The ISMA Archive is a virtual collection of digitised archive material relating to the International Six Metre class of sailing boats. Launched in 2019, the collection contains photographs, newsletters, correspondence, articles, regatta documents and objects sourced from organisations and individuals all over the world. The website also contains individual profile pages for over 1200 boats and race results dating from the 1908 Olympics to the present day.

The International Six Metre class is over 100 years old, dating back to the introduction of the International Rule – or Metre Rule – in 1907. Several sizes of International Rule boats became popular, including Eights and Twelves, but it is the Sixes that have formed by far the largest class. Today, it remains a vibrant and competitive class with boats regularly coming together from all over the world to race. Not only does the Six Metre community embrace the cutting edge technologies that are characteristic of a development class, but they are rightly proud of the class’s long and significant history.

The Six Metre Archive project is led by the Association’s members and exists to open up access to resources that have been previously difficult to find. The collection is constantly growing as we uncover new collections, and we welcome contributions from individuals and organisations around the globe, reflecting the international nature of the class.
