In Conversation with Helen Richardson-Walsh MBE

In Conversation with Helen Richardson-Walsh
Helen Richardson-Walsh talks sporting heritage, performance psychology, mental health, family life and her new book, Winning Together

Olympic gold medal-winning, GB Hockey player, Helen Richardson-Walsh MBE joins our founding director, Dr Justine Reilly in the latest of our ‘In Conversation series’.

We started by discussing what Helen has been up to this last year, from becoming a mother, to finding the time to write her book ‘Winning Together‘ with her wife, and fellow Olympian, Kate Richardson-Walsh.

Helen also tells us all about her exciting new role as a performance psychologist at Tottenham Hotspur Women, and how her own sporting experiences, mental health battles and her appreciation of the importance of psychology to performance have prepared her for this role. And, we consider how sport is increasingly reflecting society when it comes to mental health, with more and more athletes speaking out about their own experiences.

And of course, as we run up to National Sporting Heritage day #NSHD2021 on Sep 30, we had to ask Helen about why she thinks sporting heritage is important, what part it has played in her own career with GB Hockey, and what lessons it can teach the athletes of the future.
