Celebrating Community in Sport

This year we want more schools than ever to be part of our flagship event, National Sporting Heritage Day, which takes place on 30th September each year.  We know that sport is for everyone and whatever your sport, there is community worth celebrating.  So how can your school, whether it’s a primary or secondary, get involved in?

Although NSHD is scheduled to take place on 30 September, we also know that for schools planning an activity or taking part in an event on a single or specified day of the year can be a challenge. So this year we want to provide an extended opportunity to get your young people excited, inspired and engaged in the opportunity for a cross curricular project that can run any time from 30 September until the end of the Autumn term to suit you

How will this work?

It would of course be fantastic if your school wanted to design and deliver its own project that celebrates community in sport – how community impacts on your school’s sporting heritage, how your school has been instrumental in the sporting heritage of its community, and perhaps working with your local community to create an event, exhibition or activity which celebrates your schools sporting heritage.

Why not also try using our existing education resources, which are freely available from our website as a source of inspiration or framework? These could be used individually or in any combination to provide the basis for a really unique community project!

What happens next?

  • If you are ready to register your interest in taking part this year, please complete the Event Registration Form.
  • Once you project is complete, please contact us at [email protected].
  • Each project will be featured in a special section of the Sporting Heritage website
  • Projects may also be featured at our annual Sporting Heritage Awards event, with the opportunity for a special prize for the school

Share Your Sporting Story

If you’re unable to create an activity or event for National Sporting Heritage Day, you can still celebrate the sporting past of your school with your community. Share your sporting stories and collections on social media using #NSHD2024 #SportingHeritage
