#NSHD2019 Community Grant Projects
We are delighted to support organisations and community groups across the UK to deliver projects specially aimed at engaging community access to sporting heritage collections as part of National Sporting Heritage Day 2019.
Generously funded by the Art Fund in partnership with Sporting Heritage, this programme will support increased engagement to local collections which tell the story and stories of sporting activity, heroes, and endeavour.
This year’s programme was hugely competitive – we were overwhelmed with the amount of high quality, engaging activity being developed and planned across a large number of sports and with many different communities. We have been able to support 15 projects this year:
Anglesey Archives will work with the local community to create an exhibition highlighting the importance of sporting heritage to Anglesey as part of their work with the International Island Games
Blackburn Rovers Community Trust will be creating a “Remember the Rovers” match day heritage event
Cynon Valley Museum in South Wales will develop a community focused touring exhibition of local rugby union sporting heritage
Dewsbury Memories in West Yorkshire will create a film which highlights the importance of sporting heritage to memories projects, drawing on their experience and working with the local community
Eye and District Cricket Club in Suffolk will create sporting heritage activity for the first time, bringing together the local community and players to create exhibition boards and community consultation
Halliwell Jones Stadium, Warrington will be creating a sporting heritage tea-dance, sharing and collecting local rugby league memories
London Stadium Learning will be developing a digital legacy from the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games
The Real Foundation Trust in Mansfield will be creating a sporting heritage display and community access for the first time
Red Rose Sports Club, Preston will focus on capturing and sharing the sporting heritage of a local park as a pilot programme for future years
Southwark Local History Library & Archive’s project will digitise sporting events photography from 80s and 90s and has a focus on LGBTQ, disability sports and women’s sports
Tayport FC in Fife focus will be an oral history project, capturing stories to share the club’s sporting heritage with future generations

Eye and District Cricket club would like to thank the support of Sporting Heritage and the Art_Fund to enable us to put this event on. We can’t wait to show North Suffolk and South Norfolk the history, people and stories linked with this rural cricket club.
