To support children, young people and families involvement in National Sporting Heritage, we’re so excited to be working with Kids in Museums this year!
We’re inviting you to create a National Sporting Heritage Take-Over Day! This means you invite children and / or young people into your organisation to “take-over” activity that would usually be delivered by adults.
There are so many ways that you can make this work, depending on the needs of your organisation. Here’s a just a few ideas from the good folk at Kids in Museums (KIM), but you can find more, and supporting resources on their website here: https://kidsinmuseums.org.uk/what-we-do/takeover-day/
- take over jobs and become tour guides, grounds people, curators, shop assistants, cleaners, welcome hosts, receptionists, and press officers
- co-curate exhibitions and events, including late night gigs, sleepovers or performances
- deliver learning or outreach sessions for other groups of children
- create merchandise for the shop
- give their perspective and feedback on organisation websites, events and interpretation
- take over social media channels
Sporting Heritage Takeover Challenge Booklet
To help those participating in your Sporting Heritage Takeover Day activities we’ve created a Challenge Booklet with Illustrator, Jessica Hartshorn. The booklet is a fun and easy way to record the experience and tasks completed.
Further Takeover Day resources to help you get started, with ideas about past events, and support to develop your plans can be found on the Kids in Museums website.
We also recently caught up with Alison Bowyer, Executive Director at Kids in Museums to discuss how organisations can work with families, introduce young people participation, and how sporting and heritage organisations of all shapes and sizes can get involved with the KIM campaigns and resources.
Tell us what you have planned
